Constructed between 1906 - 1910, Home Farm Cottage was originally conceived as two semi-detached, farm workers cottages, associated with the adjacent Home Farm. During the 1970’s the property was combined into one house for a family member of the farm owner, creating a 3-bedroom detached property. In the later part of the 1990’s the property was extended to provide two additional bedrooms, family lounge and integral garage, thus making the property into a large 5-bedroom family home.

The Client had a desire to investigate how the property could be turned into a multi-generational home, suitable for three generations of the family. Initial requirements were to subdivide the property, providing accommodation for their daughter’s family and an annex for themselves. Due to circumstance the annex had to be on the ground floor and there was the desire to retain the existing garage, while also providing garage space for the annex.

JMP Architecture developed with the Client a sketch proposal to show how their requirements could be achieved. This developed into a ground floor accessible one bedroom annex with single garage and 5-bedroom family home. The annex consisted of a vaulted entrance hall, lounge, kitchen / dinner, utility, WC and master bedroom suite with an ensuite dressing room. The main house on the ground floor consisted of entrance hall, playroom/gym, lounge, WC, kitchen / dinner (with interlink door to the annex). To the first floor, a master bedroom with an ensuite, 4 double bedrooms, office / 6th bedroom, family bathroom and loft space.
